Read on to learn more about what a generator is and some options to think about.

A generator is nothing more than a machine that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy.  A generator can power essential appliances (refrigerators or stoves), equipment and computers in the event of a power outage.

There are two types of generators.  A portable generator is just that.  It can be transported when needed.  You have seen them at campsites, construction sites, etc.

The other type of generator is a standby generator.  These generators are hardwired into an electrical system and remain stationary on a cement pad outside homes, businesses and hospitals. When the power goes out the generator automatically switches power over.

A standby generator uses a transfer switch.  The transfer switch, generator and all connections should only be installed by a qualified, licensed electrician from Sylvia Electrical Contracting.

Generators can use a variety of power sources from gasoline to natural gas and come in a variety of sizes to suit every customers needs. We would be happy to discuss all your generator options with you.  Call us today!  Don't be left in the cold.
